Dr. Catherine Varney, D.O.
President
Dr. Catherine Varney earned her B.S. in Athletic Training from the University of Alabama and her D.O. from the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her residency in Family Medicine at Intermountain HealthCare McKay-Dee in Ogden, Utah, followed by advanced training and board certification in Obesity Medicine through the American Board of Obesity Medicine. She joined UVA Health in 2017 and was named the inaugural Director of Obesity Medicine in 2021. Dr. Varney is also an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the UVA School of Medicine. Her academic responsibilities include curriculum development, resident education, and clinical care in both primary care and bariatric surgery settings. In addition to her clinical and teaching roles, she conducts research in obesity, curriculum innovation, and quality improvement. Dr. Varney currently serves as a Trustee on the Obesity Medicine Association Board of Directors and has previously served on the Board of the Virginia Bariatric Society.
Dr. David Rowe, M.D.

Dr. David Rowe received a B.S. degree in biology from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville and an M.D. from The Medical College of Virginia (now VCU School of Medicine) in Richmond. He then completed residency training in anatomic & clinical pathology at MCV Hospitals, including a subspecialty year in surgical pathology & cytopathology mentored by Dr. William J. Frable and Dr. Celeste N. Powers. He was given the Fergus O’M. Shiel Award in 2001, for excellence in medical school teaching. Dr. Rowe finished his postgraduate education as a fellow in dermatopathology at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington, D.C., under the direction of Dr. George P. Lupton. Dr. Rowe joined Charlottesville Pathology Associates in 2002. That group of pathologists serves Martha Jefferson Hospital (MJH) in Charlottesville, VA. Dr. Rowe was the chairman of the Laboratory & Transfusion Committee at MJH, as well as a staff pathologist & dermatopathologist until leaving to form PRW Laboratories in 2011. He became an assistant professor of pathology at UVA in 2012. Dr. Rowe is a past-President of the Virginia Dermatology Society and a member of the American Society of Dermatopathology, the Virginia Society for Pathology, the American Society for Clinical Pathology, the College of American Pathologists, the United States & Canadian Academy of Pathology, and the Medical Society of Virginia.
Dr. John Currie Mason, M.D.

Dr. John Mason cares for patients with diseases and disorders of the ear, including hearing loss, chronic infections and trauma. He is a faculty member in the UVA Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, president of the Virginia Society of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and is involved in many hospital committees.
Originally from Wilmington, North Carolina, Mason received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In 1992, he moved to Charlottesville, where he completed an internship and residency in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery and a fellowship in neurotology at UVA.
Mason is married with three children and is actively involved in his children’s school as a member of the Committee for Legal and Community Affairs. He has traveled to the Dominican Republic for mission work in years past. In his free time, Mason also enjoys running, reading, water skiing and spending time with his family.
Dr. Rita D. Page, M.D.

Dr. Rita Page is an ophthalmologist in Charlottesville, Virginia. She received her medical degree from University of Virginia School of Medicine and has been in practice between 11-20 years. Dr. Rita D. Page has expertise in treating cataract, glaucoma, among other conditions. She is affiliated with Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital and UVA Health Sciences Center. Dr. Page is a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Evan Cordrey, M.D.

Dr. Evan Cordrey is originally from Denver, Colorado, and he has always had a passion for caring for the whole person. After completing his undergraduate degree in psychology from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, Dr. Cordrey did a full year of research in Pediatric Audiology at Boys Town National Research Hospital. He then completed Medical School at the Creighton University School of Medicine Phoenix Campus in Arizona before being accepted to the University of Virginia General Adult Psychiatry Residency Program.
As a resident physician during the COVID-19 Pandemic, Dr. Cordrey gained knowledge in areas of Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and Adult and Child Neurology in addition to completing his Adult Psychiatry requirements. He remained at the University of Virginia for his Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship and served as Chief Fellow in his final year.
As both an Adult and Child Psychiatrist, Dr. Cordrey has experience treating psychiatric disorders across the lifespan including Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Psychosis and Anxiety/Mood disorders. Dr. Cordrey has the benefit of training in multiple psychotherapy modalities as well as understanding the utility (and limitations) of medications to assist with management of various mental health issues.
Dr. Angie Stiltner, M.D.

Dr. Angie Stiltner has been an active member of the Albemarle County Medical Society since 2011, serving on the executive committee and as President in 2015. A lifelong Virginian, she earned her undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Virginia, followed by a Family Medicine residency and Geriatrics fellowship at Carilion Health System. She later joined UVA’s Division of Geriatric Medicine as faculty before dedicating over a decade to hospice and palliative care as Senior Medical Director for Hospice of the Piedmont. In 2025, she became Service Line Medical Director for Hospice and Palliative Care at Mary Washington Healthcare.
Board certified in Family Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, and Hospice and Palliative Medicine, Dr. Stiltner is also a Hospice Medical Director Certified physician and a Fellow of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She was one of eight national scholars selected for the Hearst Foundation’s Leadership Scholars Fund and earned her Certified Physician Executive credential in 2022.
Outside of medicine, she enjoys hiking, biking, swimming, and time with family.
Dr. Rhett N. Willis Jr., M.D.

A native of Savannah, Georgia, Dr. Rhett Willis graduated Cum Laude from The University of Georgia. After college, he spent a year in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, perfecting his fly-fishing skills.
Dr. Willis earned his medical degree from Mercer University School of Medicine, where he also served on multiple student council positions. He then completed his residency at The University of Virginia, where he received five years of general surgery training, spent a year under a T32 research grant publishing on surgical outcomes, and was elected House Staff President, representing over 780 residents and fellows.
He graduated as Chief Resident and further honed his expertise with a fellowship in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at The University of Utah, in Salt Lake City, which interestingly, is the second busiest city for cosmetic surgery in the United States. This provided him with invaluable exposure to all facets of cosmetic surgery. Dr. Willis founded and practices here locally at Charlottesville Plastic Surgery where his focus includes cosmetic breast, body, and facial procedures.
Dr. Rohit Nanda, M.D.

Dr. Mohit Nanda graduated Magna Cum Laude from Rice University and received his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma (MD). He received his ophthalmology training at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and subspecialty training in the management of retinal diseases at Rush Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Nanda’s interests include fine arts, music, horticulture and gardening. He and his wife, Dr. Vandana “Bindu” Nanda, have three daughters.
Dr. Nanda moved to Charlottesville and started Virginia Retina Consultants in 2005.

Dr. Samuel Dan Caughron, M.D.
Board Member
Dr. Samuel Dan Caughron is a board-certified family physician with over five decades of experience in family medicine, occupational health, and preventive medicine. He has practiced in Charlottesville since 1978, serving as Medical Director for multiple organizations, including Heritage Hall Nursing Home and Occupational Health Strategies, while maintaining an active family practice at The Charlottesville Wellness Center.
Dr. Caughron has held faculty roles at the University of Virginia School of Medicine and School of Nursing and contributed to state and national initiatives, including Governor Northam’s Marijuana Legalization Work Group. He is a Fellow of both the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine and the American College of Preventive Medicine, and has served in leadership positions with the Medical Society of Virginia, the Albemarle County Medical Society, and the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
An active educator and speaker, Dr. Caughron has presented on occupational and preventive medicine nationwide and contributed to The DOT Medical Examination: A Guide to Commercial Drivers’ Medical Certification.
Brett Goerl, MS4

Brett Goerl, a native of Virginia, is completing his final year of the University of Virginia's dual-degree MD/MBA program. He is applying to psychiatry residency programs with aspirations to practice integrative psychiatry and use his business degree to help develop health tech interventions to improve mental health at the population level. He is serving his third term as Board Member and Webmaster and is passionate about ACMS serving as a platform for professional advocacy.
Hannah Harrelson, MS4
Board Member & Student Representative
Hannah Harrelson is a fourth year medical student at the University of Virginia School of Medicine originally from Loudoun County, Virginia. She is applying to ophthalmology residency this year and is passionate about health policy and advocacy work, global health, and health equity within the Charlottesville community and beyond. In addition to her position as the Medical Student Representative at ACMS, Ms. Harrelson is also a member of the American Medical Association (AMA) Medical Student Section on Gender and Sexual Health and has co-authored internal AMA policy recognizing the unique healthcare needs of LGBTQ youth in foster care. She has also travelled to the state capitol of Virginia and Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C to advocate for comprehensive patient care and ophthalmic research. In her free time, Ms. Harrelson enjoys teaching Pilates at a community studio in Charlottesville and exploring the town's vibrant food culture.
